The Ultimate Fashion Icon

Before influencers dominated our Instagram and TikTok feeds, there was Barbara Millicent Roberts. Her accessories, the dream house, and her clothes fueled the imaginations of generations. Barbie is the original influencer.

Sure we could use this newsletter to dissect how the Mattel team is working overtime with 1000+ marketing activations to make this the most pink summer of our lives, but do we really need to talk about work, at work?

I present to you a much more exciting option: 10 of Barbie’s most iconic lewks. Of course in no particular order because I could barely narrow it down to 10. Let’s get into it.

#10
Original Barbie Picture

It’s the look that started it all. Barbie’s debut in 1959 was marked by a black and white striped swimsuit, white sunglasses and blue eyeshadow. And the look captivated all of us again 60+ years later when we saw it recreated in the live action trailer for the Barbie movie. Bravo, Greta.

#9
Pink Splendor Barbie

Silk, lace, rhinestones and taffeta. All in pink. So much pink. This limited edition Barbie has it all.

#8
80s Barbie

Those shoulder pads should tell you one thing - this Barbie is an 80s girl. It’s bold, it’s shiny, it’s a vibe. And I’m here for it.

#7
Workout Barbie

When you think of Barbie, does this image not come to mind? It’s pretty synonymous with the doll. And halloween costumes.

#6
Totally Hair Barbie

There were several Barbies in the 90s that were all about the hair - remember the one with hair that you were actually supposed to cut? This one was one of the most coveted. Margot Robbie recreated this look too, minus all of the hair.

#5
YSL Barbies

Barbie has had multiple designer collabs over the years. In my opinion, the Yves Saint Laurent limited edition outfits are *chefs kiss* it.

#4
DK Barbie

Another to-die-for designer collaboration. You may or may not see me in this as soon as winter hits.

#3
2000s Barbie

I couldn’t make this list without a nod to 2000s Juicy Couture. Barbie was absolutely on trend for the Paris Hilton era.

#2
Barbie and Ken

Ken earns a spot on the list with the Dream Date set. The pink, purple and sequins are classic Barbie and won me over.

#1
President Barbie

President Barbie. Need I say more?
